Budgeting

The pandemic, recent politics and socio-economic challenges have caused shortages and costs to go up around the island.

Budgeting cash for your trip is challenging. Since 2020 inflation has gone up 600% on food and basic supplies! Prices are constantly changing (increasing).

The Embargo

The Embargo does not allow us to legally bring back Cuban rum or cigars – but we can enjoy them while we’re there!

General Guide

  • Havana Club rum runs between $15-30 a bottle depending on size and years aged. 15 – 25 year aged rum can run upwards of $250 CUC a bottle (but it IS smooth!!!!)
  • Real Cohiba cigars from the factory / state owned stores are around $15-40 per cigar. $275 per box
  • You won’t find much fine jewelry to buy, but artisan pieces using local materials can be colorful and fun ranging about $20-35 
  • Wood carvings, toys, and creations can be quite beautiful and range from $10-50 depending on the size and type.
  • Artistry humidors can be several hundreds of dollars – they are one of a kind art and functional!
  • Paintings are for sale at the main market in old Havana (there is an entire 2nd floor warehouse with rows and rows for sale). These can range from $75-$1000 depending on the size and the artist.
