Dive Insurance

If you plan to scuba dive in Cuba, make sure you have DAN dive accident insurance. Make sure you’re renewed with DAN membership & have current DAN insurance.  DAN works in CUBA using the same processes as they operate in any other country in the world. However, in Cuba medical services have to be paid by the patient (usually in cash) at the time incurred and then seek DAN for reimbursement with your receipts.  Diving in Cuba is typically far from hyperbaric chambers. Because Cuba’s hospital systems have many shortages and access can take long hours if not days – you must be prepared to deal with risks in the event of a health issue or accident.

We strongly encourage DAN’s Enhanced membership ($75) which covers infectious disease and quarantine costs.

DAN’s guardian plan ($125) covers medical coverage and evacuation. In the highly unlikely event you need medical care, Cuban hospitals may require to PAY in cash while the insurance policy paperwork is initiated for the reimbursement process. It feels strange to carry cash just in case for things like this, but remember your credit card won’t work in Cuba and there are no ATMs. It’s best to have more than you’ll need and be smart about keeping the extra locked up somewhere discreet
