Wifi
Wifi can be non-existent. But, if you do find it, typically for a few bucks, Internet WIFI cards or a wifi code are available for purchase at the hotel’s front desk. Ask the receptionist for access. Ask how many hours are included and if it expires the same day. Service varies.
Hotspots
If there are hotspots nearby, then locals will all be sitting/standing using their phones. Wifi access can sometimes be found via a Nauta card – a small card with a user name & pin number. However, these are hard to find.
The card has a scratch off code which allows you to connect for up to an hour.
Here are steps to use it:
- Connect to the ETECSA WiFi network (Cuba’s telecommunications company).
- Once you turn on WiFi, select the “ETECSA” network (there won’t be many to chose from)
- A screen should pop up asking you to log in. This is where you’ll enter the usario (username) and contraseña (password) found on the back of the scratch-off Internet card.
- If a log-in screen doesn’t pop up, open the browser and type “1.1.1.1”.
