Terms and Conditions

Cuba Scuba Tours is a media organization currently working on the 2nd on book on Cuba Ecology.   Any arrangements and advice have been giving in good faith to the best of our ability and knowledge. Cuba Scuba is NOT responsible for changes in information & policy regarding Cuba.

You are traveling with Cuba Scuba’s program under the 515.575 Humanitarian General License (which includes a sub category for environmental projects). Our environmental project is collecting information and observations for the 2nd book about Cuba’s ecology – mainly marine ecology where you will help gather information and photos.  In addition, the humanitarian travel category stipulates direct benefit to the Cuban people.  Our group does this by supporting community leaders, artists, pastors, school principals and marine biologists.  We also stay mostly in private homes (casa particulares) and eat in privately owned restaurants (paladares) in Havana.  We utilize a number of other private services such as antique car owners, dance instructors, and other private concierge services in Havana.  It’s wonderful because by the end of the week, everyone leaves knowing they have made new Cuban friendships and a great impact on the island. We also have a long list of humanitarian items that are needed and travelers can donate them to the Cuban people directly as we meet them as well as monetary gifts to pastors.  TIPPING IS ESSENTIAL in providing direct support to the Cuban people and is how they make their livelihood. Plan at least $200-250 for tips on your humanitarian trip.

Cuba Scuba’s itinerary was reviewed by Washington DC Attorney, Adam Smith who previously worked as the senior advisory to the US Office of Foreign Assets Control, Treasury Department (OFAC).  He determined that while portions of our itinerary fit in more than 1 approved general licensed category, our whole program fits most cleanly under the Humanitarian license 515.575.  We strive with the utmost care and diligence to comply with all OFAC rules.  However, the traveler is ultimately responsible.  Traveling to Cuba for tourism is prohibited.  You are expected to participate in the group excursions and activities that our program has been approved for.

Thank you for volunteering to help with the 2nd edition of Cuba Scuba’s guidebook.  We wish you very safe travels and a truly transformational experience in Cuba!
